Many patients are referred first to a sleep specialist office before testing even begins. Depending on scheduling demand, that first consultation may take weeks or longer.
Then the patient may be scheduled for an overnight polysomnography (PSG) sleep study in a lab. After that, they often return to the sleep specialist for results.
If CPAP therapy is recommended, some patients are then scheduled for a second overnight titration study to determine pressure settings—followed by another office visit to review those results.

For many patients with suspected obstructive sleep apnea, a primary care physician can directly order a home sleep test.
That means:
Your primary care doctor orders the test
You complete the test at home in your own bed
A qualified sleep physician interprets the results
If appropriate, treatment can begin faster
This often eliminates unnecessary delays and additional appointments.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine supports home sleep apnea testing for appropriately selected adult patients with signs and symptoms of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea.

For working adults, parents, and caregivers, time matters.
A traditional pathway can stretch over several weeks or months depending on appointment availability.
A direct home sleep testing pathway may significantly shorten that timeline.
That means you may begin treatment sooner and start improving:
Not every patient is a candidate for home sleep testing. Patients with complex medical conditions or concern for other sleep disorders may still need in-lab testing.
